WHAT'S INSIDE
Every ingredient in whippedearth®. And why.
Seventeen ingredients. Not forty-seven. Two do the heavy lifting, six support your skin, and the rest hold it all together. Here's every single one — nothing hidden.
THE CORE
Two ingredients do the heavy lifting
Diatomaceous earth and papaya ferment are the dual mechanism behind whippedearth®. One polishes. One dissolves. Together they clear your skin without stripping it.
Diatomaceous Earth
The micro-polish
A naturally occurring sedimentary mineral made from the fossilised remains of diatoms — tiny aquatic organisms that lived millions of years ago. Millions of years of geological pressure turned them into one of the gentlest, most effective physical exfoliants you can put on your skin.
Unlike crushed walnut shells or sugar scrubs (which can create micro-tears), diatomaceous earth particles are uniformly small and rounded at the microscopic level. They buff away the outermost layer of dead cells without being harsh. Every particle is roughly the same size and shape — you get an even, predictable exfoliation. No rogue sharp bits.
It's also naturally porous. Those millions of tiny pores in each particle act like sponges, drawing excess sebum out of your skin without stripping your moisture barrier. Your pores look cleaner. Your skin looks less shiny. But your skin doesn't feel tight.
What it does
Gentle physical micro-exfoliation. Lifts dead cells, absorbs excess oil, smooths skin texture.
How it's different
Cosmetic-grade, ultra-fine milled. Uniform particles mean no micro-tears — unlike traditional scrubs.
Made of
Primarily silica — a mineral your skin already uses as a building block for connective tissue.
Papaya Ferment
The enzyme
Made by fermenting the fruit of Carica papaya, this ingredient concentrates papain — a proteolytic enzyme that breaks down keratin, the tough protein holding dead skin cells together. When those bonds dissolve, the dead cells release and wash away. What's left is the fresher, smoother skin that was sitting underneath all along.
Why fermented? Raw papaya is unpredictable — the concentration varies with ripeness, variety, and storage. Fermentation fixes that. It concentrates the enzymes, makes them more stable, and breaks down the latex proteins that can cause irritation from raw papaya. The result is cleaner, safer, and more consistent.
The fermentation process also produces additional beneficial compounds — organic acids, peptides, and antioxidants — that support skin health beyond exfoliation alone. It's not just about removing dead cells. It's about nourishing what's underneath.
What it does
Enzymatic exfoliation. Dissolves the bonds holding dead cells in place — no scrubbing required.
How it's different
Not a chemical peel. Works only on the surface — no penetration into living tissue, no downtime.
Active compound
Papain — a proteolytic enzyme that targets keratin. Active at low concentrations, gentle on skin.
THE FULL FORMULA
Every other ingredient earns its place
No fillers. Nothing for show. Each ingredient is there because your skin needs it — to absorb, calm, hydrate, or protect.
Kaolin Clay
The gentlest clay there is. Draws out excess oil and surface impurities without stripping your moisture barrier. Unlike bentonite, it doesn't swell when wet — it sits gently on your skin, absorbs what shouldn't be there, and rinses clean. No tightness. No rebound oiliness.
Bentonite Clay
The stronger clay partner. Higher absorption capacity that tackles deeper congestion and excess oil. We use it in a carefully balanced ratio with kaolin — enough to boost oil control, not enough to strip your skin.
Bamboo Charcoal
Works like a magnet for the gunk sitting in your pores. Bamboo charcoal has a massive surface area at the microscopic level, drawing out impurities, excess sebum, and environmental buildup. You'll feel cleaner after one use.
Magnesium Sulphate
Calms inflammation and keeps oiliness in check. Your skin feels balanced — not tight, not greasy, just right. Magnesium also supports your skin's natural recovery process, helping it bounce back faster.
Glycerin
One of the most proven humectants in skincare. Glycerin draws moisture from the environment into your skin and holds it there. It's the reason whippedearth® feels hydrating for a mask — not drying. Simple ingredient, big job.
Pentavitin & Fucogel
Pentavitin locks moisture in for up to 72 hours. Fucogel is a plant-derived hydrator that soothes on contact. Together they're the reason whippedearth® doesn't leave your face feeling tight and stripped like other masks do.
THE BORING (BUT IMPORTANT) STUFF
The ingredients that make a formula work
Not every ingredient is glamorous. Some are there to carry, stabilise, preserve, or balance. Here's what each group does and why we're not hiding them.
The base
Water (Aqua)
Every formula needs a foundation. Water is the carrier — it dissolves and delivers every other ingredient to your skin. It's the first ingredient on the list because it's the largest part of the formula, and that's exactly how a well-hydrated mask should work.
The texture
Xanthan Gum, Maltodextrin, Sodium Chloride
What makes whippedearth® feel like a mask and not a puddle. These keep the formula smooth, spreadable, and consistent from the first squeeze to the last. Xanthan gum gives it body. Maltodextrin stabilises the active ingredients. Sodium chloride helps everything hold together.
The preservation
Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid
Keeps the product safe from bacteria and mould for its entire shelf life. This is a modern, paraben-free preservative system. Every water-based skincare product needs preservation — without it, that tube of mask would spoil in days. These make sure it doesn't.
The balance
Alcohol, Triethanolamine
pH adjusters and solubility aids. They make sure every ingredient works at peak effectiveness. Triethanolamine balances the formula's pH to match your skin's natural range. Alcohol (at trace levels, near the end of the INCI list) helps certain ingredients dissolve and distribute evenly.
WHAT WE LEFT OUT
What's not in here matters too
We're just as deliberate about what we leave out as what we put in.
No fragrance
Your skin is already dealing with enough. Fragrance is one of the most common irritants in skincare. We left it out.
No essential oils
"Natural" doesn't mean gentle. Essential oils can sensitise skin over time. Not worth the risk for a nice smell.
No parabens
We use a modern preservative system instead. Effective shelf life without the ingredients people are trying to avoid.
No artificial colour
It's a face mask, not a painting. Dyes serve no purpose except making a product look pretty in the tube.
